“The Last Flight of the White Raven” marked an important milestone in my aufguss journey, blending ambition with creativity. It was a departure from the shared style of “Reflections” with Rianne, as Lukasz and I brought together two contrasting styles to create something truly unique. This project became a journey of discovery—pushing our boundaries, learning from one another, and finding endless inspiration along the way. It was also an incredible honor to partner with my mentor, the very person who first showed me the ropes. No matter the outcome, I already felt like a winner from the very beginning.
At the heart of “The Last Flight of the White Raven” is a story inspired by old Nordic mythology, blending elements of magic, loss, and betrayal. We aimed to take the audience back to a time when witches and the supernatural were a part of everyday life. The tale follows a grieving man who, after losing his wife, is lured by a witch promising a chance to reunite with her. In return, she demands he slay the sacred White Raven. Unaware of the truth, the man carries out the witch’s request, only to discover too late that the raven was his wife in disguise. The story reaches its peak in a fierce emotional confrontation between the man and the witch, a struggle fueled by his grief and her deception. Each moment kept the audience on edge, immersed in the tragedy and the tension of this ancient-inspired tale.
“The Last Flight of the White Raven” was a true milestone in collaboration, showcasing the harmony between Lukasz and me as we combined our unique styles into one performance. While Lukasz remained grounded in his role, I embraced the challenge of shifting between multiple characters—the grieving wife, the cunning witch, and the sacred raven. These transitions demanded quick outfit changes and clarity to keep the audience engaged.
The story was complicated to tell, especially in just 15 minutes. It wasn’t easy to fit everything in while keeping it clear and engaging, but that challenge taught us a lot about how to tell a story effectively without overloading the audience. What made this performance special was how much we could achieve with just acting, powerful music, scents, and the story itself. It showed that even with a complex narrative, the core of aufguss—creating emotion—can shine through.
