My second solo is now a fact. Over the last four years, I performed in four team shows and only one previous solo – Rhythm. Solo waving presents a challenge: I love collaborating, mixing styles, sharing the stage. But performing alone? It’s all on me – both daunting and empowering.
The inspiration for False Fortune came from one of my favorite films, Ghost, especially the iconic performance of Whoopi Goldberg as the eccentric fortune teller, Oda Mae Brown. Her theatrics, her trickery, her flair – I always thought, “Wouldn’t it be fun to become a character like her?”
From there, I created my own story. A fake fortune teller who discovers she might actually have the gift – and what happens when she tries to use it.

When the aufguss begins, you’ll find yourself in the mysterious shop of Fortune Teller Charlotte. You hear a customer enter… then suddenly, darkness. Thunder cracks. When the lights return, Charlotte stands behind her table, cloaked in mystery.
She welcomes her guest warmly and begins reading her future. But the reading doesn’t go well—the customer has drawn the Devil card. Charlotte looks concerned and warns her of something wicked on the horizon. The customer, shaken, quickly leaves.
As the door shuts, Charlotte’s expression changes. She bursts into laughter: “Something wicked… they fall for it every time.”
Charlotte returns to her routine—plotting her next scam, ready to trick her next customer for a few extra coins.
But just as she relaxes, a soft voice and glowing light appear in the room. The voice asks, “Do you really think this is funny?” and then adds, “You have a real gift. Real powers. Let me help you.” Charlotte is stunned. She’s never believed in real magic—she only inherited the shop through her family. But now, doubt creeps in. What if the family gift is real? She allows the spirit to guide her. She begins practicing, and slowly, she grows stronger—her magic feels real.
Then comes a final task. The spirit tells her she has the power to open portals using her voice. Curious, Charlotte drinks a potion and sings an enchantment. A low hum builds, and a strange portal appears. But something’s wrong. The once kind voice becomes dark and twisted. “I’m taking over,” it growls. The lights go out. When Charlotte reappears, she’s cloaked and different—possessed, maybe? In the final round, an inner battle unfolds. Charlotte fights to break free from the spirit’s grip. In a final act of will, she banishes the dark force back into the portal.
Now changed, Charlotte vows to use her gift for good. But deep in the silence, one question remains…
Did the spirit ever truly leave?
